Nevertheless, this is purely our experience and thought worth sharing. We have been looking for a property around this area and finally found Bayswater to be the place we want to live in. A great suburb with lovely neighbourhood!
I have lived here for about 3 years. Many of the areas have been rejuvenated with lots of new houses and renovations going on. It is great for family with children as there is a big fantastic playground my kids just love. Public transport is good as well with train station and bus hub. Grocery shopping is convenience as there are 3 major supermarkets: Aldi, Woolies and Coles.
Regarding crime, we haven't had any problem so far. Within the first month of moving in I forgot to close my garage door so it was open for the whole night. We live in a busy street and we have some stuff that we put in the garage and nothing was stolen. We've had left the house unoccupied for 1 month and found it the way it was when we came home. For people who haven't seen the current Bayswater should check out and see how the suburb has evolved.
From the info we received from council, there will still be some development in the area around the station. The cons is currently the suburb center hasn't got plenty options for eating out. I agree with 'ince'. I have been here 3 years also and have had no problem. Neighbours very helpful. This suburb is definitely changing with the older people moving on and new families with little kids coming in.
Very good for us!! Local school is ok - my kids settled in quickly and just got on with it. Good kind teachers and principal.
Bayswater is a beautiful, safe, friendly suburb. Have been living here for the past 15 years and do not have a bad word to say about it. The shops are wonderful and no matter where you turn you have a glorious backdrop of the mountains. Wouldn't live anywhere else!! I have lived in Bayswater for 33 yrs and haven't got a bad word to say about it.
All the people who live around my wife and i are very friendly and helpful. The air is fresh, the grass is green and it is a peaceful place to live. Public transport is walking distance as is the full range of shops and all the parks and sporting grounds. There are some amazing views of the dandenong ranges from Bayswater and yet only 10 mins drive to get up into the mountains.
In the other directions you have a 30 min drive to the melbourne cbd via the new Eastlink freeway. The house and land sizes and prices are much more generous than inner city areas which is great if you are bringing up children or just like to have a little space between you and your neighbours.
I recently got married and we are moving out of the area for the first time to explore another part of the eastern suburbs. I have lived in Bayswater for the last three years and will be sad to see the end of our time here, but the time has come for us to move to something more Our court is very quiet and the neighbours are great - everyone gets along really well, not a day goes by without a 'hows it going?
Sure some of the houses may look a little older, but a lot are also being renovated now, and what a transformation! We are walking distance from shops, Knox Leisure Works, Boronia and Bayswater station and the bike track. Bayswater now homes Aldi, Woolworths and Coles - as well as a recently built shopping hub with everything you need from a local centre. I'd recommend Bayswater to anyone who asks.
Having lived in various suburbs in Melbourne, I love the green, big blocks of Bayswater. Friendly neighbours, peaceful and quiet with great access to public transport. Bayswater was looking a little tired, but with all the new builds it has very much been revitalised. Such things can happen in any suburb. I have lived in so called 'expensive and safe suburbs, such as Surrey Hills and Malvern, and have experienced more violence and crime in those suburbs than anything in Bayswater.
This included a stabbing in front of my old house in Surrey Hills. Highly recommend Bayswater as a safe, friendly and affordable place to live. I've lived in Bayswater for three years and couldn't wait to move out.
The first month I moved in my car was broken into, trashed and left with a damaged car door. Within another year I parked out side a local shop and the whole side of my car was side swiped completely writing off the car.
The person didn't leave a note nothing and no one bothered to help , something I don't think you'd miss in shopping center that size , the sound alone would've made people look. I was lucky I only rented there and got out as quick as I could.
Strange place crime is alive and well just follow the shoes hung over the power lines. Westwards is housing, with three primary schools to cater for the children of later postwar families. The secondary college is in the north of the suburb, within walking distance of the railway station.
In the early postwar years Bayswater had its second inflow of German-speaking residents who had been internees at Tatura. All were members of the Temple Society. When released they settled in Boronia and Bayswater. The Society is active in charitable and community affairs, and it is probably no co-incidence that the adjoining Bayswater South primary school has lessons in English and German languages.
